Unsuccessful Cycle

The disappointment of an unsuccessful cycle of assisted conception can be heartbreaking and at times can seem greater than your original experience of infertility.

If your cycle has been unsuccessful for any reason, you should seriously consider taking advantage of the Counselling services included with your fertility treatment. Talking through your response to the outcome and discussing next steps may help you manage what is a challenging situation.

Your Fertility Specialist will review your cycle with you to assess why you did not get pregnant but the reality may be that nothing went wrong, rather that the numbers just did not go your way.

It's important to remember that even a couple without any infertility issues has just a 20 per cent chance of getting pregnant naturally every month. While the IVF pregnancy rate per cycle is usually higher than the chance of getting pregnant naturally (especially for older couples), it is still not a guarantee.

When can I try again?

We recommend that you have at least one month’s break following a stimulated IVF cycle, but you can go back-to-back if you’re doing a natural or frozen embryo transfer IVF cycle.
